The ACDP’s position on the renaming of Tablebay Boulevard after FW De Klerk is clear. Our policy on Naming and Renaming confirms that we will not support or initiate the renaming after someone who is still alive.

So, had there been an opportunity to vote on the proposal at yesterdays council meeting, we would have abstained from voting – we could not support the proposal since our policy is in contrast to the DA’s, ANC’s and the City’s, BUT we also would not have voted against it.

Unfortunately, ANC and DA actions disrupted the Council meeting yesterday and it descended into chaos so that when this item was voted on, only DA members were present – and in fact only barely enough of them to make a quorum.More about that in a subsequent post next week.
