Cape Towns ‘generosity’ is unsustainable

Generosity is good and necessary, and a sign of a caring and responsive government. The ACDP fully supports indigent grants to those in need. Yet, the ACDP has consistently warned that the level of generosity showed by the City is unsustainable and is offered at the expense of the already strained ratepayer base through exorbitant rates and services increases of 140% and more since 2006. Proof that the ratepayer base cannot afford these increases can be found in the increasing annual debt write – offs of over R1billion and growing.
The ACDP has consistently called for a zero % rates increase holiday to make Cape Town a more affordable city to live in, but the DA rejects our calls annually – demonstrating a care – less attitude towards the plight of the hard working ratepayers of CT.
