QUESTION TO THE MAYOR RE BLOUBERG BEACH DECLINE:
I asked the Mayor this question (below) and was again told to amend it by the Speaker, which I then did. The answer is instructive given that the Mayor either shows she has no knowledge of the imminent rehabilitation plan and budget announced by WC Government last week (and that TVRA heard about last night) or chose not to include it in her answer. Either way, her answer is inadequate and serves to fob-off the communities concerns with an answer that “the water quality will be looked into” when that wasn’t even the question.
ORIGINAL QUESTION:
A Google Earth photographic map comparison of Blouberg beach front (provided) of May 2004 and July 2015 confirms a dramatic decline of the entire beach area. This decline is confirmed by locals and visitors alike who bemoan the lack of facilities and City investment, and that the beach is too frequently littered with dog poop and general litter, etc, making it a wholly unpleasant beach experience.
Yet, just like Big Bay beach, Blouberg beach boasts world class beach recreation opportunities, as yet untapped tourism and commercial / economic potential, scenic splendour and an iconographic view of Table Mountain, and the M14 roadway being included in the City’s “Scenic Drive Network”.
QUESTION:
What are the City’s plans (with timelines and budget(s), if any, to arrest the obvious decline of the beach area and lack of City investment, and to implement relevant development project(s) to the point where it can be awarded Blue Flag beach status?
AMENDED QUESTION:
Blouberg beach boasts world class beach recreation opportunities, as yet untapped tourism and commercial / economic potential, scenic splendour and an iconographic view of Table Mountain, and the M14 roadway being included in the City’s “Scenic Drive Network”.
