There’s a lot of truth in this opinion piece (click on this link)
Cape Towns traffic problems are huge but R750 million hardly buys any solutions.
To get motorists out of their cars means building a public transport offering that is safe, reliable, affordable and wide-spread across the City. We are still in the baby steps phase of that.
It also means creating further opportunities for motorists to choose cycling or motorcycling instead of cars – yet the City has hardly any motorcycle parking bays in the City and fewer bicycle lock up facilities, so there’s no incentive there yet.
And to top it all, the two toll roads (N1 tunnel and Chappies) charge motorcyclists instead of rewarding them with NO TOLL FEES FOR MOTORCYCLISTS!
So in this ‘massive’ announcement, nothing much was said really.
