It’s not enough to only implement water restrictions and escalate these as it becomes more and more evident that its not enough. The City needs to step in more decisively against water wasters and improve its communication with ratepayers on how to save water.
The ACDP supports this recommendation of imposing level 3 water restrictions in Cape Town and will vote accordingly at the October council meeting.
But still there is a lot more than can and needs to be done by all government spheres and departments, and the private sector to reduce water consumption, promote the use of alternative water sources including rain water harvesting and grey water gardening.
We are disappointed to see that these things remain on the fringe instead of having become mainstream budget and policy priorities for us all
