In a recent announcement the Mayor announced that “Cape Town needs to gain greater control of its energy future and our reliance on the national energy utility, Eskom simply must be reduced.
In order for this to happen though, the national regulatory environment must be reformed, which currently does not permit our city to buy electricity from independent power producers. It is our intention to move away from just being an electricity distributor to also generating our own energy.”
“The ACDP will support the City of Cape Town government working towards these goals”, confirmed Councillor Grant Haskin ACDP caucus leader in the City of Cape Town.
“Secure, reliable, affordable and clean energy supply is vital for the future of Cape Town, a city that is growing rapidly. Our future generations depend on us to make the right decisions now for their sake. This is a very important step for the City,” said Cllr Haskin.
