36 Underground Springs: City finally admits it knows of them

Today Mayor De Lille finally admitted she is fully aware of the study done on the Cape Town CBD’s underground freshwater springs.
The study was done about 10 years ago and delivered to the City.
As recently as a year or two ago the City’s Mayoral Committee considered it again but again no implementation plan or project was forthcoming, preferring instead to continue using a small portion of that water for the Urban Park around the stadium.
Today I challenged the Mayor to prioritise human needs over gardens and parks.
Her reply was that it’s coming ….. when?
For now, City residents must not water gardens, rightly face increased water bills and even fines for water gardens. This while the City uses fresh underground water for gardens and parks and not humans.
Those are VERY bad priorities.
